Free Friday: America’s Oldest Brewery

D.G. Yuengling and Son established in 1829, is America’s oldest operating brewery. It does not operate in the scale that popular breweries like Budweiser and Coors do. But it ties in sales with America’s largest American-owned brewery Sam Adams.

Yuengling Traditional Lager is so popular in Pennsylvania, the Delaware Valley, and South Jersey that it can be ordered by simply asking for a lager.

Yuengling’s first brewery is located in the little town of Pottsville, Pennsylvania.

TOURS are offered at this location for FREE. At the end of the tour, visitors can sample two cups of Yuengling’s beer products that are presently on production. Including, the popular traditional lager.

The tour starts at the Gift Shop where Yuengling souvenirs are on sale and other memorabilia which are for display only.

Then the tour group is led to the cave that served as storage for the beer in the early days.

Then up the stairs to the present day machineries used for beer brewing.

Visitors also get to see where the beer is packaged.

Finally, the group is brought to the highlight of the tour – FREE BEER!!!

The points of interest for me are the art work in the brewery. Like this stained glass ceiling.

Then there are these paintings that depict Yuengling workers in the 1800’s.

Hubby and I, and my sister-in-law and her husband enjoyed the Yuengling Tour. The men, especially, enjoyed the free beer. 😊
