Free Friday: Plum Orchard Mansion, Georgia

Cumberland Island National Seashore, GA – I can only say, “Wow!” when I saw Plum Orchard Mansion. It was a 20,000 square feet home in a not easily accessible island.

It was built in 1889 by Lucy Carnegie for her son, George and his wife, Margaret. It speaks of the wealth the Carnegie’s had.

The bathroom sinks are trimmed with gold. Real gold.

There is even a knob to dispense shampoo!

It’s amazing how the privileged lived in the 1800’s. The mansion at Cumberland Island is a piece of history that gives visitors a glimpse of it.
