Memento Monday: Abanico

Abanico is the Spanish term for handheld fan. It is a trademark of Spain and very much a part of Spanish culture. Spain brought this trademark to my motherland during their occupation of Las Islas Filipinas. My grandma had a few. It’s a cheap way of cooling oneself in warm weather.

Abanico, €12 at a souvenir shop in Barcelona

Memories of my grandma and her abanico came to mind when I spotted this fan at a souvenir shop in Barcelona. Abanico prices range from €2 to €500 depending on the material and whether they are hand painted or not. I got one, of course! 😊
