Free Friday: Mark Twain Gravesite

1200 Walnut St, Elmira NY

I was surprised to find out from my hubby that Mark Twain a.k.a. Samuel Clemens, author of the Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, is buried in Elmira, New York. Hubby learned about it from a documentary on the life of Samuel Clemens by Ken Burns aired on PBS channel. As we were dropping off one of the nieces at Cornell University, we decided to stop by Mark Twain’s gravesite in Elmira, New York which is 45 minutes away from Cornell.

Mark Twain and his wife with other relatives are buried in a family plot at Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira, New York.

There is a monument in the family plot for Mark Twain and other prominent family members.

Mark Twain fans may want to stop by and pay their respects when in the area. Mark Twain’s gravesite is a NO FEE place to visit.
