Sunday Rating: ms Amsterdam by Holland America Line

Overall Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

I have not been on a cruise before, so I was so excited to board ms Amsterdam and embark on my very first one! It was even more exciting that my first cruise is to Alaska! The word on the street is Holland America Line is one of the best cruise lines around. I felt good that I booked with the line for my very first cruise.
So, how did ms Amsterdam do?

Our booking was part of Holland America Line’s Explore 4 promotion. When 2 people book a cruise, 2 sail for free when sharing a cabin with two existing guests. The deal was $899 per person plus taxes; 3rd and 4th guests pay only taxes.

Cabin ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Hubby and I booked an ocean view  cabin. We had the option of upgrading to a suite for a few hundred more, but we declined as we would only be spending time in the cabin to sleep. We planned to enjoy the activities and entertainment in the ship to the fullest.

We liked our cabin just fine. We could have used more space, but no one really complained. As far as sleep quality went, we slept well. I thought the loft bed was cool.

There were also enough closet space for everyone which we greatly appreciated.

The bathroom was clean and I loved the toiletries, especially the lotion. 😊

Dining ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

We loved the dining options on board – buffet, sit-down meal service, specialty formal dining, and fast food.

For breakfast, we preferred to do the buffet as the sit-down breakfast was too early for us. We loved to do the sitdown dinners because the serving sizes were just right for the three-course meals. We tried the fast food, too, and the bar. We enjoyed our dining experiences.

Embarkation ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

The embarkation process was organized and there were enough staff to assist passengers at every point. We did not have any issues.

Activities and Entertainment ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Lack of something to do was definitely not an issue on board. There were scheduled activities every hour. There were even scheduled masses.

My favorite thing to do was hang out at the library browsing through books and sit by the windows to watch for whales in the ocean.

I also liked the nightly shows. My favorite was the Tribute to the Beatles. The music lounge was one of the places we all enjoyed  where we sang along with the singer.

One of my sisters-in-law stopped by the casino each day for an hour or so where she got lucky and won!

Fitness ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Hubby took advantage of the fitness room on board. He did not take any pictures though. There were those who preferred to take walks on the decks, instead of going there.

Public Rooms ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

I found the public areas on board ms Amsterdam clean and neat. The boat has a comfortable ambience that I liked. I felt comfortable hanging out anywhere.

Passengers enjoyed stopping by the clock which chimed every half hour. It’s an attention getter!

My sisters-in-law and I had a favorite powder room at ms Amsterdam. It’s spacious, stylish, and provided an awesome view. It’s a great space to hang out and watch for whales. 😄

Service ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

I can’t praise the staff of ms Amsterdam enough. They were excellent. I liked their friendly professionalism. Our cabin was well maintained, the food was served with a smile, and on board activities were hosted and delivered well.

Shore Excursions  ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

We only booked one excursion during our cruise. I found the prices for the excursions expensive. The “guided” excursion we booked to Mendenhall Glacier was basically transport with commentary. We would have saved if we hired a taxi, instead.

Value ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

There is no doubt about it, we got a great bargain when we booked our Alaska Cruise. In addition to 2 people traveling for free with my hubby and me, we received 2 beverage packages for free and a specialty restaurant dinner for 2.

Would we go on another cruise with Holland America? Definitely. We hope to do another Alaska Cruise in 2018. It will be to the northeastern part which includes Denali, the great mountain. Woo hoo! 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻
