My 5 Places To See in Sitka, Alaska

Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds fans may have heard of Sitka, Alaska. Remember the movie, The Proposal? Ryan Reynold’s character grew up in Sitka, Alaska. I forgot about this until one of my Facebook friends reminded me.

Sitka is a small city packed with gorgeous views of the mountains and the ocean. I enjoyed our stop here. We had about 6 hours to spend in Sitka which we spent visiting places on foot.

1. Sitka National Historical Park (Totem Park)

This is Alaska’s oldest national park. It commemorates the 1804 Battle of Sitka and aims to preserve totem art.

This house was built during the Russian colonial period. The original 1843 log structure is one of the last remaining from the period.

The hill is the site of Baranof Castle and offers awe inspiring views of Sitka.

4. Sitka Pioneers’ Home

The facility, built in 1934, boasts of manicured lawns and gardens filled with native Alaska plants.

5. Saint Michael’s Cathedral

This is a replica of the 1848 church destroyed by fire in 1966.
