Underground River in Palawan, Philippines

A visit to Palawan in the Philippines would be incomplete without going to one of the New 7 Wonders of the World and UNESCO World Heritage Site, Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, popularly known as Palawan’s Underground River.

The Underground River Tour begins in a town called Sabang where visitors get on a boat to bring them to the park.

The 20-minute boat ride brings visitors to the shore of Saint Paul Bay where visitors alight.

Visitors then take a short walk to the dock where the Underground River Tour begins.

Visitors then get on a small boat that could accommodate up to 10 people. There is, of course, a tour guide who also paddles the boat. The tour takes about 45 minutes.

It is dark inside the cave save for the industrial size flashlight that each boat has. I wasn’t able to take photos inside of the numerous rock formations that the guide highlighted.

There are three things that I loved about doing the Underground River Tour – the boat ride to the park, the humor of our tour guide, and the amazing views. Palawan is such a beautiful place. One of the places in the world that shows off nature at its best.
